This potency comes from three sources -- the Grapes, the Bombs, and the Grapnels. Between the Grapes and Bombs, the Pirate Lord's close-in damage is extremely potent, capable of reducing even high-end blimps to ribbons in moments. Effectively any spot next to water will work well for this; ideally, however, it prefers to have open space and tracks on either side of it, to make use of its ability to attack from both sides at once and the Grapes' tendency to fly much farther than the Lord's targeting range. When large numbers of Blimps threaten to overwhelm it, the Pirate Lord can fall back on its MOAB Takedown ability; not only is it able to pull in six MOABs at a time, or take down ZOMGs at the cost of three hooks each (meaning it can take as much as 16,000 health off the board with one ability), but importantly, provided the Pirate Lord can see camo either through Crow's Nest or through aid from other towers, it can target and take down DDTs. Removing up to six fast, extremely tough DDTs from a field can easily be the difference between a win or loss. Add in that it is overall cheaper than its counterpart Carrier Flagship, and the Pirate Lord has a lot of things to offer it.

While both need to be placed on water, Aircraft Carrier and Carrier Flagship can still be highly effective even if that water is far from the track. Monkey Pirates and Pirate Lord can still make use of MOAB Takedown from anywhere on the map, but if they can't belly up to the firing line so that they can have good windows to get their guns on massed groups of Bloons, their damage potential drops off rapidly in comparison. Pirate Lord is also a selfish tower by comparison, offering none of the buffs to other towers that Carrier Flagship does. Both are excellent towers, but for different situations.

Pirate Lord is the Monkey Buccaneer's path 2 tier 5 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It decreases the attack cooldown of all attacks by 50%, doubling the Monkey Buccaneer's attack speed. It also improves several of the Monkey Buccaneer's attacks:

  • Grapes damage increased from 5 to 8, and Ceramic damage increased from +2 to +8
    • Grapes damage-over-time effect increased from 2 per tick to 9
  • Cannonball MOAB-Class damage increased from +5 to +10
    • Cannonball frags damage increased from 1 to 6, frags MOAB-Class damage increased from +0 to +4

This upgrade grants the MOAB Takedown ability 6 hooks in total, and the capability of hooking ZOMGs at the cost of 3 hooks each. The ability's cooldown is decreased from 45 seconds to 30 seconds (25 seconds with Faster Takedowns Faster Takedowns), and hooked Bloons grant +100% increased pop income.

Monkey Pirates is great for the first couple MOABs but with the long ability cooldown it very quickly falls off after that point, we have pushed it and Pirate Lord’s base stats up to feel more competitive especially with possible Brickell synergy.

We’ve realized that the 130 crosspath just hasn’t even been working for cannons, so we wanted to correct this so that people get all that they pay for with that crosspath, however middle path buccaneer at higher tiers has been overperforming significantly so in addition to this attack speed buff we have also balanced back out that difference in the opposite direction with a damage reduction.

Middle Buccaneer has had mixed feedback with much disappointment that the focus of its balance changes haven’t been improvements for the ability, given this path has again lost considerable power we want to look more on both of those aspects this time.
